Our Philosophy
We believe safety is part of the work, not separate from it.
Every engagement begins with inquiry. We take time to understand how work is planned, how it is performed in practice, and where pressures, trade-offs, and risk emerge. This approach allows safety to be shaped by reality rather than assumptions.

From Metrics to Meaning
Traditional safety programs often measure what is easy to count rather than what is meaningful. We support organizations in shifting attention away from excessive reporting and unrealistic targets toward indicators that reflect learning, engagement, and the ability to manage real risk.
Success is defined by resilience, adaptability, and trust, not just the absence of incidents.
Guiding Principles
Our work is shaped by a consistent set of principles:
Start with inquiry
Empower the frontline
Focus on real hazards and high-risk work
Promote learning over blame
Integrate safety into everyday decision-making
Respect context, culture, and complexity
These principles ensure solutions are practical, relevant, and sustainable.

Led by Experience

Kanna Solutions is shaped by decades of hands-on leadership in complex, high-risk environments. Rick Petersen brings more than 25 years of experience working across energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors, including global roles supporting major capital projects, operations, and organizational change.
His work has spanned frontline operations, executive leadership, and board-level advisory, with deep experience in safety management systems, serious incident prevention, ESG integration, and organizational learning. This background informs a practical, systems-aware approach that is grounded in real conditions, real pressures, and the realities of how work unfolds on site.
Rather than applying fixed models or generic frameworks, Kanna Solutions draws on this experience to support organizations with approaches that are credible, adaptable, and fit for purpose.
Human and Organizational Performance
Our work is grounded in Human and Organizational Performance principles, which recognize that error is normal and learning is essential. Rather than focusing on blame or rule enforcement, we support organizations in building systems that anticipate variability and respond constructively when things do not go as planned.
Let’s Start with a Conversation
